Dirt Roads
Dirt Roads
by Beverly Jennings

I reckon what's the matter with this old world today,
Is not enough folk have dirt roads to travel on their way.
You gotta' kick up some dust,
If you wanna' know life.
You gotta' push your way out of the mud,
If you wanna' know strife.
I reckon what's the matter with this old world today,
Is silvery gray roads planted like patches 'a clover,
Makin' folk think they're lucky,
To have them things spreadin' all over.
They hurry 'n scurry around on them quick silvery roads,
Hopin' to get there with all their precious loads,
And a tiny little pothole in a mighty concrete slab,
Is more than most can deal with.
But I'll tell you the truth,
And it ain't no myth.
There's something in that pothole not meant to give hurt,
'Cause if you look way down in there,
You'll find there's some dirt.
